But there I was, phone out, Untappd open, and the universe had quietly decided that Brothers in Ale would be where the odometer rolled over on my brewery pilgrimage. The beer was honest. Coldish (Costa Rica) well-made, unpretentious. The kind of pour that doesn’t need to explain itself. In a world drowning in hazy IPAs with clever names and Instagram strategies, there’s something quietly radical about a beer that just works. Then the food arrived. Sliders — three of them — on a wooden board, sauced and a little messy in the way that good food often is and we know Buffalo sauce. And a burrito that stopped me mid-bite smothered in three sauces — green, cream, red — the kind of plate that tells you the kitchen actually gives a damn. That they’re not coasting. And then there was Francina. She didn’t just take our order — she brought samples, let us find our way through the lineup at our own pace, no pressure, no performance. Just genuinely chill. The kind of hospitality that’s rarer than it should be. You come for the beer. You stay because of moments like this. Three hundred breweries. Some forgettable, some transcendent, most somewhere beautifully in between. This one lands closer to the latter. On to the next. 🍺"
